Volunteers Deploy to the Oklahoma Ice Storms
Volunteers Ari Yoder and Ken Topliss deployed to Muskogee, Oklahoma to serve during the January ice storms affecting over a dozen small towns in Cherokee, Delaware, Haskell, Mayes, Muskogee, Pittsburg and Wagoner counties. The storms encased virtually everything in ice, causing power and phone lines to sag under the weight, eventually breaking or pulling down the power poles.
Residents who depend on electricity were without power - some for several weeks - leaving them unable to heat their homes, cook or refrigerate food.
Both Topliss and Yoder worked in Mass Care, Topliss in feeding and Yoder in headquarters administration.
